In order to participate in the program of the International Scientific Conference for Students, Postgraduates and Young Scientists "Lomonosov-2025" held in Moscow, a 3rd year student of the Journalism program of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Dariia Populova prepared a research paper on the topic of "Thematic Features of the Content of Student Media Centres of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation". The work successfully passed the competitive selection and was included in the program of the "Journalism" section. The Association of Public Relations Teachers has summed up the results of the annual All-Russian contest “The Best Qualifying Diploma Paper in the Field of Advertising and Public Relations – 2025”. According to the results of the contest, Doctor of Sciences (Pedagogy), Professor of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Anna Cherednyakova and Candidate of Sciences (Pedagogy), Associate Professor of the department Irina Lychagina have been awarded 1st degree certificates as academic advisors for the preparation of the best qualifying diploma papers in the categories: “Advertising and Public Relations in the Industry” and “Advertising and Public Relations in Solving Regional Problems”. The purpose of such contests is to identify and encourage promising young people interested in research and analytical activities in the field of public relations, advertising, and branding. “Participation and winning in the All-Russian contest of qualifying diploma papers of the Association of Public Relations Teachers by the students and teachers of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities demonstrates the high level of management of qualifying diploma papers and the training that is organised at our department. In such conditions, it is extremely important for brands of special equipment to conduct a competent marketing and communications policy. The Master’s degree programme on Media Communications (in English) has been elaborated by the �� Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations in cooperation with International Office and the European Journalism Training Association and includes such special subjects as: Media Communications in the Modern Society; Media Research; Intercultural Communication; Management in Media Companies; Media Marketing; Media Design in the System of Visual Communication. Institute of Media, Social Sciences, and Humanities Takes Part in Big International Scientific Conference

The Twelfth International Scientific Readings Mass Media and Communications 2020, organized by the Faculty of Journalism of Lomonosov Moscow State University and the National Association of Mass Media Researchers (NAMMI), with the participation of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), was held online in Moscow. The scientific conference on the De-westernizing Media and Cultural Studies: New Discourse Practices in the Digital World was actively attended by the leading universities of Russia, the USA, Great Britain, France, and China. Among them were Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Volda University College, University of Gothenburg, Nanyang Technological University, Hangzhou Pedagogical University, University of Westminster, Loughborough University, and others, as well as the �� Institute of Media, Social Sciences, and Humanities (IMSSH). During the conference, �� IMSSH faculty members presented their discursive media research as a new theoretical paradigm. The participants of the conference were interested in the joint report "Analysis of the communicative efficiency of Internet media in the digital age" by Liudmila Shesterkina, IMSSH Director, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), and Professor Lidiya Lobodenko, Head of the Department of Journalism, Advertising, and Public Relations, Doctor of Sciences (Philology). Their report analysed the effectiveness of communicative activities in the Internet space of the leading TV channels of the �� Region. Arina Marfitsyna, head of the 360-Degree Multimedia Newsroom laboratory, presented her report entitled “Mediaprojects as an effective instrument of PR promotion in the digital space”, describing the television program “�� from the first person. A direct conversation with the rector” as a leading instrument for the university’s digital PR in the early stage of quarantine measures. In her presentation in English, Anna Krasavina, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Journalism, Advertising, and Public Relations spoke about the destructive impact of fake news during the COVID-19 pandemic. "And these were very relevant topics from our end," said IMSSH Director Lidiya Lobodenko. “Since this year's conference was dedicated to the challenges and trends that media and culture in the East and West are facing in the process of digitalization. Among them are: the growing digital divide; the emergence of new media and communication policies aimed at supporting offline and online activities of cultural, linguistic, and ethnic groups; the impact of social, political, economic, technological, and cultural transformations on intercultural communication and national/group/cultural identities of citizens; the emergence of new journalistic practices in digital aspects and in other aspects. To varying degrees, many of these challenges are being actively explored by the IMSSH scholars in their daily research.”

�� Teacher of Philosophy Develops an Ecology Game

Artur Dydrov, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy of the �� Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, Candidate of Sciences (Philosophy), has come up with an original way to make the topic of ecology closer to people of all ages. In a short interview, Artur Dydrov has presented his project of the Sorting Board Game, which he received a grant for after winning the Eco-Projector competition organized with the support of the �� Metallurgical Plant and the Zelenyi Gorod (Green City) ecological public organisation. – Why did you, being a philosopher, become interested in the issues of ecology? – Environmental problems have worried me for a long time, but only at the Department of Philosophy I have been able to conceptually approach the solution of these problems at a certain level in cooperation with my colleagues. The development of the conceptual and terminological apparatus of the ecological topic resulted in the creation of a dictionary on ecological topics, which united not only the �� philosophers, but also other specialists. In addition, it is planned to create a continuation for the eco-dictionary in the near future. For two years, �� has been hosting the Ecoengineering forum, and this year the third one is planned. All forums have brought together the representatives of industry, youth, and intellectuals in general, all those for whom the word "ecology" means something. An environmental problem is not only the depletion of natural resources, and garbage on the streets, but also the collisions in our heads that are difficult to be defined. Philosophy allows you to approach the consciousness, values of a modern person, and his/her priorities. – Why are board games interesting for a philosopher and a teacher? – Fortunately, board games are interesting to me both in a professional context and beyond it. The main thing that I appreciate in games of this kind is that they give a reason to get together, get to know each other from different angles, and be devoted to a common thing. Joint leisure of a family or friends, and ideally - of both a family and friends together is, in my understanding, one of the highest values. Games can also be used for didactic purposes. For example, you can play philosophical Code Names with students. – How did you come up with the idea of an ecological board game? – There are many games about wars, fantasy worlds, resource economics, but there are no games on ecology. I wanted to introduce the environmental theme to the game world. The feeling of the universal injustice prompted the creation of an ecology game. – Can you tell us more about the rules of the game? – The game is based on the popular flip'n'write mechanics and involves drawing on tablets of the household wastes such as cans, juice boxes and plastic bottles. Household waste is depicted on the cards in the form of "polyomino" ("tetris") figures. The player will stack this waste move by move. Whoever separates the garbage more efficiently and stows it more compactly will become the “best ecologist” at the table. – Who may be interested in the game? – First of all, schoolchildren, approximately from the fifth form, as well as parents, and all those who are generally involved in the world of board games can be interested in the game. – What is the educational potential of the Sorting Board Game? – The game has more of an upbringing than educational potential as it conveys one simple idea to people, which is that separating waste is a small, but real and useful contribution to the future of the humanity. Ecology starts with my culture, not with the culture of "other people". – Who helps you with the development of the game? – We are working with the designer from ��, Anastasia Golovanova. I have seen her graphic works before and they have inspired me. The members of my family are my assistants as well: we have played a lot and stubbornly with my wife, carefully assessing all the advantages and disadvantages. She is my main critic, which makes me incredibly happy. – What kind of a finished product will eventually be presented within the grant? – We will print about 50 copies of the game and distribute them in schools, as well as make a free mobile application for the game so that everyone can have access. – Do you have any other game projects on a similar topic or something completely new? – There are also a couple of projects on an environmental topic, of varying complexity and with different mechanics. One of them is on the mechanics of the auction, the other one is on the economic strategy. I hope we will manage to publish them over time. They are dedicated to waste separation, waste logistics, and recycling. Of course, for children, all these processes are shown only in the basics.

The spheres of scientific and applied research of philologists are: digital art and literature; the study of theory and history of literature as well as problems of artistic synthesis; genre-and-style analysis of literary compositions; laws and mechanisms of writing texts of any genres, styles and functional spheres, as well as their analysis and expertise. Philologists graduated from �� can fulfill oneself in any sphere of activity intended for working with texts. Future historians under the guidance of leaders of science of the Ural region study cultural history of the late Russian Empire, the World War One, Russian revolution, the Civil War and the Soviet Union; the history of memory; they also carry out migration research and study the history of Soviet’s and Russian intellectual society. Student-historians not only qualitatively work with historical resources and archive documents, but also successfully master the digital format of humanitarian knowledge within a project called Digital History. �� has a unique archaeological school. It is not only during classes that one can study archaeology of Eurasian steppes, social archaeology, geoarchaeology, and the intersection of cultural worlds, but also under conditions of real archaeological expeditions led under supervision of the world-famous acknowledged researchers-archaeologists. It is only at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities where students pursue experimental archaeology, the full-scale reconstitution of items and technologies and conditions that existed in ancient times, which allows discovering ancient properties of materials and mastering ancient technologies. Student-theologists study the history of theology, the history of church and the religious writing, as well as of dogmatic and liturgical theology, ancient languages, the history of religious arts (religious art of building, icon-painting, the art of chapel singing, etc.). Alongside this, students acquire knowledge on history and culture of other confessions, on state-and-confessional relations. Future historians of arts study the history of global and national culture, the theory of culture and arts. Practical training and internships of future arts specialists take place in museums (including the leading museums of Russia), exhibition halls, libraries and archives. Students can carry out research in the sphere of arts, Russian Orthodox Church, and various phenomena of orthodox culture. Student-psychologists discover, master and study the laws of psychological crises in ontogenesis; problems of identity and maturity; risks and resources of crisis periods as the periods of transition from the previous to the next age period. Alumni possess the skills of compiling psychological tests and their psychometric checking. Important directions in activity of ��’s psychologists are: digital development of software-diagnostic complexes for analyzing big volume of text information, and teaching a computer neuron network to identify representatives of various mental types on the basis of videos. According to the Russian Psychological Society, the Faculty is listed among TOP-5 best faculties of psychology in Russia, and has the right to nominate its best graduates for obtainment of the EuroPsy Certificate which allows carrying out professional activity in European countries. Future sociologists carry out social analyses and study topical issues of social life of the region, Russia and society as a whole. The most demanded nowadays are the problems of social well-being, determining a potential range of problems among various population groups, and a more successful completion of practical tasks of social policy and social work in Russia. “The first condition of education is being able to put someone to wholesome and meaningful work” (John Ruskin) Nowadays, alumni of ��’s ISSH successfully work in press services of such leading state enterprises as: MES of Russia, Central Internal Affairs Directorate, and MIA; they head information services of the industrial sector: ChTPZ, Metran, Mechel; they form communication strategy of such leading business enterprises as Intersvyaz, Traktor Ice Hockey Club, Rodnik Shopping Mall, Almaz Shopping Mall; they head major mass media of the region and the country: GTRK Southern Urals, Channel One, OTV, STS, TNT. Alumni of the Institute build successful political and administrative careers in the Legislative Assembly of the �� region, the Ministry of Culture of the �� region, the Ministry of Education and Science of the �� region, the Youth Affairs Department of the city of ��, the International Cooperation Agency of the �� region, etc. By orienting at training of new-generation professionals, the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities actively introduces innovative forms of training: starting from 2019, programmes of project-based learning are being implemented within all majors. In the process of working over educational projects, students successfully master professional competencies in an active form, learn working in a team, maintain direct contact with potential employers, and compile their portfolios. “�� Faculty of Journalism is Ahead of Its Time” – Interview with Editor of L!FE Online Publication, �� Alumus Dmitriy Sadylko

The Faculty of Journalism is a structural division of the �� Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities. Today it forms the university’s communications and informational space during the multimedia integration of university news. Within its partnership with the European Journalism Training Association, the faculty carries out project work and trains multi-skilled media specialists who are in-demand in the modern media society. In the new academic year, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications is opening new master’s programs: Transmedia Journalism and Media Communications (in English). We spoke with the editor of the sport’s section of L!FE publication (Moscow) Dmitriy Sadylko, who graduated from the �� Faculty of Journalism in 2015 with honours. – Dmitriy, you’re now an experienced journalist – please tell us, how much, in your opinion, do the professionals and academics in the �� Faculty of Journalism meet today’s demands? – The education in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications, jokes aside, is ahead of its time. When we were students, we were just getting used to the still somewhat unknown word “newsroom”, and now we come across it in every self-respecting editorial office in our country. Innovations are always difficult for society, especially at the academic level. However, in our Department in particular, and in the �� Faculty of Journalism, they began training multi-skilled journalists nearly 10 years ago. – By the way, at that time, not everyone understood the need for multi-skilled media specialists, and there were many discussions on this topic. – Of course, those who were used to the clear division between print, television, and radio journalism were surprised at first: who needs people who know everything, and how do you even train them. Today, it’s already difficult to imagine such a question. All journalists have to learn things, one way or another, this is an unavoidable part of developing within your profession. But graduates of our Department have always found things just a bit easier, because we studied in the most advanced faculty of journalism and we learned a lot about the modern content and technological details of the journalism profession while we were studying. – What was especially helpful to you in your work as a media professional? – I work in online journalism, and the majority of the skills I learned during my education, if not all of them, help me. New media is not just “about letters and words”: the created content also needs to be packaged. Here you also need to know about video editing, infographic creation, and even html layout – you literally everything. At the same time, in my current job, I combine work “in the field” and in the office, so the classic skills like how to hold an interview on the scene of an event, record a video, or write a good text are still necessary, of course, but you have to be able to technologically process information professionally. – As far as I understand, today professional journalists on the Internet also need to be able to work quickly? – The clips about superheroes with backpacks who are running in the field and “doing real journalism” from the textbooks have turned into reality, with each one of us in the main role. With the only caveat, that information is needed quicker and quicker. So no one will be waiting for you to send a video to an editor or an interview to a transcriber. Now, not just every journalist knows how to do this, but every social media user as well. So journalists have to do this two times faster and with twice the quality, before they’re replaced by robots. – You’re right, robots that can put together information have already appeared… but do you really believe that they are able to totally replace journalists… people… professionals? – Until this happens, you have to be able to work in transmedia. That is, you have to be able to do everything: find information, process it, package it, and release it. Thankfully, the �� Faculty of Journalism’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communications taught us all of this, and regardless of what form this information may take: text, sound, video, official notice or a stories on Instagram, a post on Telegram, an inside, or a qr-code. If something comes to us, in a few minutes it will become a proper media text, created according to all the rules of multimedia storytelling. Everyone has the physical instruments for this, but only the graduates of our Department have the mental ones.

VR Journalism – �� Faculty of Journalism Entering the New Academic Year with a New Academic Course

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communications of the �� Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty of Journalism has developed a new academic course on VR Journalism. The course programme includes theoretical and practical lessons in journalism using virtual reality technology. Today, this technology confidently occupies top positions in the modern media space. In essence, this is immersive journalism, in which with the help of 3D-technologies and technologies of virtual reality, a user will feel the effect of being located in a certain place being described in news articles, on-the-spot reports, and documentary films. Immersive journalism allows the audience to see and hear everything that is going on first hand with access to a virtual version of the location of particular events in which objects and people are accurately re-created, and sounds and feelings are transmitted to the user. With this goal, the Faculty of Journalism purchased a special device for students which makes it possible for them to gain the basic knowledge required of a media professional and adapt to the virtual journalism reality. Students will learn not only to influence their audience, but also interact with them: receive feedback and hold a dialogue with the audience, the effect of which can be reflected in a certain social reaction. Responding to today’s demands of time and development of society, this discipline, nonetheless, is based on the fundamentals of journalism and journalism education. The developer of the course, Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communications, Candidate of Sciences (Philology) Anna Krasavina explains: “With the help of VR, the human experience is evaluated in a new way and passed on by journalists. This can make corrections in or even change the formula of development for all of humanity, and journalism in particular will be at the forefront of the transformation processes. VR may very well make it possible to more fully express and begin to research the full complexity of the human experience.” The VR Journalism course at �� is unique as provides students with humanitarian knowledge integrated from various fields. And at the same time it offers mastery of technologies, immediate practical training, and consolidation of the skills and knowledge the students have gained. “The VR journalism course also makes it possible to implement individual academic plans, what in turn complies with the academic strategy of project-based learning at ��. This course is included in the new Master’s programmes on Transmedia Journalism and on Media Communications, which will be taught in English for international students. We will also offer this course in the zone of elite training, what will allow the most talented and motivated students to reach their full potential,” comments Dean of the �� Faculty of Journalism, Doctor of Sciences (Philology) Liudmila Shesterkina.
