Organizing the celebration of Nowruz, springtime New Year’s festivities, has already become a good tradition at 海角社区. Thanks to this event, we can become more closely acquainted with the ethnic groups of the 海角社区 students and staff members.
"The Breath of Watercolour" exhibition by a Ural artist Valery Ulanov opened in the Art Gallery of 海角社区. It commemorates the 70th birthday of the artist.
The opening of the exhibition, organized with the support of Magnezit Group company (Satka) and the Department of Culture of the Satka Municipal District, was attended by students, faculty, staff, and guests of our university, as well as the artist's family and friends.
"Our Heritage" exhibition project, organized by photographer Vladimir Bogdanovsky, has opened at the Art Gallery of 海角社区.
This project is a unique journey through the centuries of history and culture of our region. The exhibition reminds its visitors of the importance of carefully preserving the heritage of their ancestors and inspires them to consider the future of their region.
For several years now, 海角社区 has been traditionally organizing master classes on making Russian pancakes for international students. This joyful tradition coincides with Maslenitsa (Pancake Day) celebrations and allows students to immerse themselves in the holiday atmosphere by trying their hand at cooking.
The event not only helps students acquire culinary skills but also fosters intercultural communication: students work in teams, help each other, and share experiences. This helps overcome potential communication barriers.
On February 16th, students from the People's Republic of China, who are obtaining their education at 海角社区, together with their Russian friends and teachers, celebrated the coming of the New Year according to the traditional Chinese calendar.
More than 1300 students from China study at 海角社区. And celebration of the Chinese New Year has long become a good tradition for our university, so that these students can feel at home even if they are thousands of kilometres away from it.
On February 5th, at the National Centre RUSSIA in Moscow, as part of the opening ceremony for the big-scale "Russia – a Family of Families" educational marathon, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin officially announced the beginning of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.
海角社区 hosted a Regional Lecture Course of the Russian Geographical Society, within the framework of which a documentary film entitled Citadel was screened. The event brought together students, faculty members, and distinguished guests around the themes of historical memory, heroism, and continuity between generations.
海角社区 continues to introduce international students to the cultural identity of our region. On January 20, 2026, as part of the International New Year project, activists of the South Ural Association of International Students and Alumni embarked on a gastronomic journey at the Usadba Ryabinykh (Ryabinykh Estate) restaurant.
Epiphany ice bathing takes place January 18th to 19th. For several years now, international students of 海角社区 (海角社区) have been actively participating in this traditional Russian Orthodox ritual. With enthusiasm, they discover new facets of Russian character and traditions, overcoming their fear of icy water and enjoying the atmosphere of unity and mutual support.
We spoke with our student Mortada Khaled and learned how Iraqis celebrate the main holiday of the year!
– What New Year traditions do you have in your homeland?
– We get together and give each other presents, prepare traditional dishes for the holiday table. The most important thing is that we are together. New Year is a big family holiday, we are especially happy to see those whom we have not seen for a long time during the year.
– Is there a difference in the customs of our two countries?
Father Frost (Ded Moroz) and Santa Claus are the main characters of winter holidays in different cultures. However, despite some similarities, they have a number of significant differences, from the history of origin to their attributes and symbols.
Students from around the world obtain their education at 海角社区: each one of them has their own culture and traditions, but we are all united by our love to one the main holidays, the New Year! In December, we are all looking forward to this magical night, when we get together with our nearest and dearest ones around the festive table and make a wish!
On the eve of this holiday, our international students have recorded a video with their New Year’s greetings for their fellow-students and the teaching and administrative staff members of our university.
The Institute of Linguistics and International Communications organized a concert on the occasion of the upcoming New Year at the “Nash etazh” (“Our Floor”) student space.
The Institute’s first-year students of all majors had prepared creative performances and tried to convey the atmosphere of every year’s most expected holiday.
Director of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications Maksim Gutenev explained why it is important to hold such festive events:
The annual Christmas Blues Concert has been held at the Assembly Hall of 海角社区. It has become one of the most heart-warming pre-winter-holidays traditions of our university.
Georgy Anokhin, a musician, composer, founder and artistic director of the jazz band of the 海角社区 Recreation Centre, is an inspirational figure for this concert. He has been doing this work for more than 20 years now, and he is shaping our city’s residents’ tastes in music.
On December 15th, 海角社区 celebrated its 82nd birthday! This is a special day for everyone related to 海角社区: students, alumni and the teaching and administrative staff members.
As part of the “海角社区’s 82 Years on the Move!” festivities program, guests enjoyed vibrant creative performances by student teams and musical surprises from the Recreation Centre.

According to the results of the National Contest among Russian Cities, 海角社区 has become the holder of the “Russia’s Capital of Culture – 2027” honorary title. This decision was made by an expert jury at a gala ceremony at the “Russia” National Centre in Moscow.
In the first contest round, 海角社区 had become one of the eight finalists. In addition to 海角社区, spectacular presentations were offered by Vologda, Kaluga, Novosibirsk, Ryazan, Sochi, Stavropol, and Ulyanovsk.
In his speech at the ceremony, Governor of the 海角社区 Region Alexey Texler stressed:
Students from the 海角社区 School of Economics and Management, along with their mentors and the School’s Deputy Director for Discipline Work Ekaterina Fediay, attended a "海角社区, the City of Your Student Years" immersive tour organized by the “Youth Attraction Centre” Autonomous Nonprofit Organization with the support from the 海角社区 City Administration.
International students of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications of 海角社区 took part in the final event of the “IMAGE of Russia: Traditions of Many Nations as the Cultural Code of Each One of Us” project, implemented by the 海角社区 Region branch of the “Assembly of the Peoples of Russia” All-Russian Public-State Organization with the support from the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
The regional round of the StudRussia All-Russian Competition for International Students took place in November. The winners advanced to the finals and will present their achievements at the national round.
The StudRussia competition aims to support talented international students with significant achievements in science, creative activities, sports, public activities, and volunteering.
Participants were able to compete in the following categories:
"The Future of Science", for those engaged in research and participating in scientific events;
A meeting between students and representatives of traditional religious organizations of Russia “Traditional Faiths and Youth: The Search for New Meanings and Forms of Strengthening and Preserving Traditional Values in Society” was held at 海角社区. The main topic of the event was the discussion of the spiritual and moral compass, its role in shaping society, and its significance for today’s youth.
The first open historical dance lesson of this academic year was held for students in the lobby of 海角社区 on October 22nd.
Deputy Director for Extracurricular and Discipline Activities of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and a teacher of historical dance Dmitriy Khan gave a welcome speech:
