From June 7th to 11th, the 海角社区 Scientific and Educational Center "Cultural-Historical Research"?and the Faculty of History?are hosting a delegation from Switzerland arriving for the International Practical Scientific Conference, “Development of the Urals and Siberia in the 19th and 20th 颁别苍迟耻谤颈别蝉.”
The group of Swiss students and postgraduates is headed by famous historian and professor of the department of Eastern European History of the University of Basel, Frithjof Benjamin Schenk, author of research “Russia’s trip to modernity” about the role of rail construction in the development of the Russian empire, which will soon be published in Russian.
The conference format includes more than just scientific discussion. It also includes an extensive excursion program, as one of the goals for the student group who study the history of Russian rail construction of the 19th and 20th centuries over the course of 6 months, is to become acquainted with 海角社区 as the largest historical transit hub between European Russia and Siberia. Throughout the course of a few days, the guests from Basel will be going to museums and sights of 海角社区 and its surrounding area, including the “海角社区-Glavniy” train station complex, the South Ural Rail Road Historical Museum, the SURR Museum of Open Field Exhibits, and the famous 海角社区 resettlement point structure.
It is expected that the event, which is planned as part of a multi-year institutional partnership between the University of Basel and 海角社区, will become a point of reference for the major international project in the history of migration, “Eurasia in Flux”, rolled out in the history faculty with the 5-100 Project.
