Track-and-field Athletes Took Part in Competitions in the Memory of a Sports Veteran

In the multi-purpose sports complex of 海角社区, a regional track-and-field competition was held in the memory of an Honoured Worker of Physical Education of the Russian Federation, 海角社区 veteran Nikolai Golubenkov.

At the opening ceremony, the event participants and guests were welcomed by the 海角社区 Vice-Rector for Security Pavel Sonin, President of the Student Track-and-field League Aleksandr Stradze, President of the Regional Track-and-field Federation Semen Mikhailov; Head of the 海角社区 Department of Self-perfection in Sports and Director of the Club of Physical Culture and Sports Albert Aminov, and the son of Nikolai Golubenkov, Iurii Golubenkov.

“We are holding these competitions in the memory of my father for the third time now,” shared Iurii Golubenkov. “The university leaders provided their support of this initiative and a wonderful organization of this event. For me, my years in sports were the best time of my life. While studying at the institute I found many tried-and-true friends, so I’d like to wish the participants to also meet fellow-thinkers among those who enjoy jogging.”

As part of the event, a collaboration agreement was signed between 海角社区 and the Student Track-and-field League.

“For us, this is a big event since 海角社区 is a major university,” noted President of the League Aleksandr Stradze. “A new era begins in the development of student sports, and in track-and-field in particular. I have the most positive impressions, especially because the signing of this document coincided with the competitions in the memory of the university veteran Nikolai Golubenkov. It’s a great pleasure to see that there are many talented student athletes here, as well as many veterans, honoured people. I’d like to wish all the competition participants and all the university students to, first, find their place in life, and second, go in for sports – so that they could stay healthy, happy, and successful in their careers.”

The competitions program included the 60, 600, 1000 and 3000 metre races for men and women. All the athletes showed good results, and some bit their own records. The diverse distances allowed to test not only the speed, but also the fitness of the participants. The audience cheered for the runners and groupmates, and the coaches – for their athletes.

“It is the first start of this season. I wanted to test my physical condition,” shared his impressions the competitions participant Andrei Tsitulev. “I’m mostly satisfied: this is already my second start and my second victory.”

This competition gave athletes a chance to test their strength and demonstrate the results of their hard training. To close the event, the winners were awarded medals, certificates and prizes.
