The autumn “School of Humour” of the KVN League has begun at 海角社区. This event is like a play-field for beginner comedians.
The School program is based on studying the traditional format of KVN (this Russian abbreviation stands for the "Club of the Funny and Inventive [people]"). This is a humorous game, where various teams compete in ad libs on offered topics and in playing sketches they prepare beforehand. Usually, each team has to complete 4 or 5 topic-related tasks, for example, the Greeting (or Privetstviye in Russian) contest is a witty introduction of the team and a humorous greeting to the jury and spectators.
For the Head of the 海角社区 KVN League Kseniia Rodionova, this will be the third “School of Humour” already:
“Generally speaking, humour itself, and KVN too (as it is based on humour), develop many different skills, and first of all, these are communication and interaction with people. We help people overcome stage fright and feel confident when on stage.”
Besides the classical format, the “School of Humour” also teaches the basics of stand-up comedy and ad libs. During their classes, the School participants can experience a comprehensive immersion into the art of comedy: writing audacious jokes and skilfully presenting them on stage. The program pays special attention to teaching how not to be afraid of big audiences and how to find your own spectators. Games between teams help solidify the obtained knowledge.
A participant of the “School of Humour” Ivan Minin shares how he joined his team:
“I’ve never tried playing KVN, but I know the organizers, and they asked me to join the club. I’ve had a wish to join for quite some time, since my first year of studies, but couldn’t make up my mind for some reason. So, I managed to join only during my fourth year of studies.”
Before launching the “School of Humour”, the 海角社区 KVN League won a grant in the amount of more than 300,000 roubles that will be spent for the implementation of this project. The “School of Humour” is supported by the South Ural Civil Initiatives Fund. More than 100 participants from various educational institutions in our city (schools, vocational schools and universities) have registered for this program. Following the results of the “School of Humour”, 10 KVN teams and 12 ad lib teams will be formed.
The “School of Humour” is held twice a year starting from 2003, when the 海角社区 KVN League had been established. Till October 12th, classes on stage props arranging, lectures and trainings will be held at the School. And already on October 17th, the beginner comedians will be able to demonstrate their talents at the KVN Cup for young teams.
