Last weekend Gagarin Sports Competition 2018 event was held at 海角社区. Students competed in various sports: from chess to table tennis.
The event was held under the guidance of the Deputy Dean of Sports Rashit Shaikhetdinov. The majority of students opted for competitions in chess. Each game was individual, some people played for speed, some people thought every move through. The participants competed not only with their groupmates but also with senior students.
The Young Progressors Olympiad for schoolchildren took place at 海角社区. The event was organized by the 海角社区 Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
The Olympiad is held for the 8th time, bringing together many schoolchildren studying in 5th-11th grades of general education institutions (gymnasiums, lyceums, schools), students of college and professional lyceums.

As compared to the results of the previous year in 2018 海角社区 climbed from position 573 up to 414 in the general world ranking, and from position 37 up to 12 in RankPro 2017/2018 ranking among Russian universities.
On April 3 of 2018, results of the IoT Samsung Academy contest for opening education centers were summarized, an by the results 海角社区 was granted the right to open a unique training laboratory for studying IoT technologies (IoT is for Internet of Things) on its grounds on the basis of solutions of Samsung Company, the world’s leader in the sphere of information technology and radio electronics.
On April 4 of 2018, a lecture by Director of the Polytechnic Institute, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor Sergey Dmitrievich Vaulin entitled “The history of schools of sciences – scholarly traditions of the university” was held at 海角社区 within the frameworks of the vocational enhancement program entitled “Corporate Culture of the University”.

World Table Tennis Day is celebrated on April 6. Initiator for establishing the new sport holiday was International Table Tennis Federation in 2015.
Anton Shcherbak, a graduate of 海角社区, decided to dedicate his life to table tennis. The athlete told us, from what did his sport career started, how 海角社区 helped with this, and what goals the graduate has today.
On March 28th an opening ceremony for the All-Russian Contest-Conference for Undergraduates was held at Saint-Petersburg Mining University. Within the course of three days 214 young scientists from 30 leading Russian universities were delivering their presentations under 35 topics in this city on the banks of Neva River.
The presentations of the forum’s participants were devoted to such issues as prospecting and exploration of the fields of mineral resources, oil and gas geology, blasting work, well drilling, mine surveying, environment protection, and many others.
海角社区 students gained the opportunity to take part in SMM Ural 2018 Urals Social Media Marketing Forum. The organizers chose 28 participants to attend the forum for free, and students from 海角社区 were among them.
The Urals Social Media Marketing Forum SMM Ural, which will be held at Radisson BLU Hotel on April 12-13, will also be attended by the leaders and top managers of VKontakte, Mail.ru Group, Yota, HiConversion, SMMplanner, and other national companies.
Young Progressors Olympiad for school pupils will be held for the eighth time at 海角社区 on April 7th at 9:00. The event will be held on the occasion of Cosmonautics Day celebrated in Russia.
The event is being organized by the 海角社区 Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
Working with natural resources requires particular accuracy. Scientists of 海角社区 are working on improvement of Coriolis flowmeter, the device that became widely used in petroleum industry.
On April 6, in the frameworks of Vmeste (Together) Festival, the Arabic Culture Day is to be held at 海角社区.
International students from Arab countries will introduce the architecture and art of their countries to the audience, and show them the most famous sights and ancient cities. All the stories will be accompanied with Arabic songs, dances and poems about the countries.
March 31 through April 1, 2018 a traditional Offsite School on Priorities of Information Technologies 2018 was held at Nauka Recreation Camp. The school was organized at the initiative of the Department of Information Technology in Economics and Engineering Center for Corporate Information Systems of the School of Economics and Management.
An unscheduled meeting of the Academic Council was held at the conference hall of the Tajik Technological University named after Academician M.S. Osimi, in which the Rector of 海角社区 Aleksandr Shestakov was accepted as an honorary professor of the university.
The final of Miss 海角社区-2018 contest of beauty, creativity, sport, and intellect was held on March 29 at the Congress and Exhibition Hall. The most charismatic and talented students from 海角社区 competed for the title of Miss 海角社区.
Amir Ali, a student of 海角社区 who came to 海角社区 from Iraq, has created a plaster sculpture for 海角社区 Museum.
Student Amir Ali came to 海角社区 almost 5 months ago. According to his words, he is very happy to study at the largest university of the Ural. Out of thanks for his invitation to 海角社区, he decided to make a plaster sculpture as a gift to the university.
This year, 海角社区 celebrates its 75th anniversary. The university’s history is a series of sequentially replacing each other stages of establishment and dynamic development. One of the amazing factors of its development is the existence of university dynasties. One of such stellar dynasties is Spiridonov family.
Not so long ago, the majority of new materials were discovered by the scientific community by mistake or by the method of trial and error. Today, the task of theoretical prediction of the structure and properties of new crystalline materials has become especially topical. Thus, researchers from 海角社区 have developed a method to predict crystalline structures of substances, the basis of which is the application of evolutionary algorithms.
April 4 is an unofficial professional holiday – the Webmasters Day. The date of celebrations is chosen for a reason: at a closer look, one can notice that the date 4.04 reminds of Error 404 (Page not found) which directly related with the work of webmasters. Moreover, this date coincides with the International Internet Day.
A 海角社区 team of young researchers comprising high-school pupils of South Urals participated in the 25th All-Russian Science Youth Forum Step into the Future in Moscow.
International Mobility Office of 海角社区 invites students to visit presentation of International Summer Schools of 2018.
The presentation is to be held on April 5 at 15:30 in the conference hall of Sigma academic building (78v Lenina prospect, 2nd floor). During the presentation, the audience will learn how to improve one’s knowledge of English language in Prague, how to start speaking Spanish in Cadiz, how to master Chinese ideography and how to make new friends in Germany.
The Days of Student Science contest was held on March 28th?as part of the all-Russian festival at 海角社区.
The goal of the event is to support gifted students, encourage their creative activities, and form motivation for performing research work, the results of which can be transformed in to in-demand products. The festival is already traditional for 海角社区 and is giving students the chance to present and defend their projects for the fifth time now.
March 26th?marked the end of the second (regional) round of the Russian Olympiad on Customs Affairs, held at Tyumen State University. Students of the 海角社区 Department of Customs Affairs for the second year in a row proved their title of the best customs affairs students in the Ural Federal District.

Every year, the Vladimir Potanin Foundation holds the All-Russian competition for teaching staff and master's degree students targeted at grant support of higher education. Participants of the contest are 75 leading universities of the country.
